The Science Behind Legal Highs

Legal highs have been around in one form or another for hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years, and have always been especially popular in Eastern cultures.  It is in recent years that these herbal or chemical substances, which are not outlawed but which create the same effects as Class A drugs, have found popularity and media attention in the West.  However, most people have a serious lack of knowledge about legal highs.  Here are a few things you need to know.

Legal highs work to create a ‘high’, or a sense of euphoria or deep relaxation.  They are effective because the substances in the legal highs work on the body’s cell receptors to stimulate them.  Each receptor in the body is designed to be receptive to a substance your body creates.  If you replace your body’s substances with legal highs, or illegal substances, you impair your body’s own chance to make this substance, and that his how you become addicted; however, this risk is smaller with legal highs.

Legal highs work in the same way as your body does.  They stimulate the pleasure hormones which your body creates naturally.  That can give you a happier perception of reality and a greater feeling of peace, tranquillity and even joy.  All legal highs work slightly differently.  You can cut down on the side effects you experience by sticking to legal highs made of all herbal products and by checking that the ones you use contain no substances to which you have a known allergy.
